Origin of Water Nature Reserve
It is a site dedicated exclusively to the recovery and protection of the unique ecosystem of the High Andean Tropical Dry Forest. It is located in an area with very special characteristics that make it a high priority area for conservation and protection.
It is 3.2 hectares of highly degraded land that were acquired in 2021 with the help of donations. There is intensive work being done to restore the native forest, soils and water, demonstrating that it is possible to transform an eroded and devastated place into a forest full of life. Its mission is to inspire others with this rebirth, connecting deeply with the schools and children of the territory, involving them in the regeneration process. In addition, it offers environmental education workshops and is a sanctuary for native orchids.
Its name comes from the phenomenon that occurs in this place: water springs up in three ways. From underground, such as the origin of the aquifer that feeds Barichara; from the surface, such as the water from the micro-basin that flows into the Barichara stream; and from the heights, where the air rising from the deep canyon turns into clouds, fog and water droplets, completing the vital cycle of the territory.
It seeks to regenerate the ecosystem by working with natural processes, attracting seed dispersers and pollinators, establishing water and soil retention measures, planting native pioneer species, among other actions.
