Moncora Biopark

It is an initiative of the Aquileo Parra Association - Friends of Barichara (non-profit association), which seeks to contribute to the recovery of the fragile and threatened Tropical Dry Forest, as well as to the environmental education of young people from Barichara, Santander.

Since 2009, it has been dedicated to restoring and conserving more than five hectares, located in an important water recharge area of the municipality. By 2024, it has planted and cared for around 7,000 trees of more than 70 native species, germinated by the hard-working hands of local farmers.

Thanks to these restoration efforts, the Móncora Biopark has been transformed into an oasis of life for birds and biodiversity in general, a perfect place to take a walk and connect with nature; as well as a living pedagogical classroom.

Camila Encinales and Vicky Camacho, its coordinators, lead the efforts in environmental education and operation of the Biopark. Teachers and students from the Aquileo Parra Technical Institute, from other schools in Barichara, as well as from universities; volunteers and generous donors have made this noble cause possible.
